Empathy for Black Culture

I am in the city district for public schools where the white color of my skin poses a problem for my acceptance and ability to impact the children I teach unless I tell them from the moment they enter the classroom that I am an advocate for their rights.  And I am, someone who truly gives a rip about the food they receive for free for breakfast and lunch that makes them sick and fat, and for the lack of knowledge they will obtain compared to private school students in the same district.  We are living in times of complete corruption and the education system being used for leverage among city officials who want power at the expense of kids today.  Yet, those of us who feel led to educate with passion, we will risk our jobs to compassionately feel for the kids.  Empathy is a necessity and one that is fleeting, but nevertheless it will allow us to communicate our concern for others well being.
