Lord help those who shame others for being depressed, anxiety struck or sick because that says more about them than the ones they are addressing. And how does anyone else know more about his neighbor than what his neighbor has lived through? Let me re-phrase, “How does anyone else know more about me than I know about me?” The answer, “they don’t”, is the only right one I can come up with. To label someone’s ailment or mental anguish as a thought driven by emotion, tells me that empathy in the messenger has been turned off. Christians commonly believe that they have to pray harder, submit their will to obedience more and become orderly in practice before they can conquer sin, but it just isn’t true. Parts inside of us are emotions that are held in the subconscious which carry significant data that fuels our brain into making decisions that we may not understand. Unfortunately, many believers have further condemned themselves for habits or “bad behavior” from a religious perspective because they have not extended grace toward their actions. Inner healing work is not for the weak because it will require the faithful to put aside judgment and correction in order to trust their feelings because they will always lead back to the original place of pain that fuels our decisions. Once we make peace with the details of our history, the demonizing of our emotions can fall away and we will stop turning to choices that continuously hurt us.
