I’m pretty sure everyone has heard of the story where Judas betrayed Jesus. Most of us have a similar story of being betrayed by the primary people in our lives which in most cases, are our parents. The unspoken truths about beliefs resonate deep within our psyche when we are too young to express our emotions but determine that our care takers are mean. It isn’t until we cycle through familiar relationships as we get older, that we acknowledge the new people who enter our lives, give a sneaky suspicion that we have met them before. We have, foundationally in our family of origin, and it is there that we have to forgive. When we dislodge the bitter judgments toward those who made mistakes or harshly treated us, the themes of repeated pain stop in our current relationships.
