Freedom to do what you ought

“I’m not made to fit in but to stand out. So many people are happy to go with the flow. We have a shrine to freedom now where all choices are equal no matter what the consequences are. Do you honestly think this is true freedom? It has been quoted, ‘Democracy cannot be sustained without a shared commitment to certain moral truths about the human condition.’ How are we to live together if we exclude moral truth? Freedom exists NOT to do what you like but to do what you ought. That is the freedom I wish for you. Freedom from the slavery that sin makes out of all of us. That freedom was worth dying for. Every man dies, not every man lives. We all must fight for that authentic freedom and live.”

Jim Caviezel has always been one of my favorite actors and to hear his story about the sign of the times and what courage looks like, is truly inspiring.
